Rangers win at Metro State

Craig Deaver was nearly perfect as he led the Rangers to a 1-0 victory against Metro State in game one of a four-game series. Deaver pitched seven scoreless innings while allowing just three hits and struck out five. Derek Byrm came in to close out the game for the Rangers pitching both the eighth and ninth inning. Byrm allowed just two hits and struck out three as he earned the save for the Rangers.

The lone and winning run for the Rangers came in the top of the fourth. Sean Chase led off with a double and two batters later Brad Schumacher came to the plate and singled to center field allowing Chase to come in for the only run of the game. Tyler Hageman was the only Ranger to have multiple hits as he was 2-for-5 on the day.

After weather postponed play the Rangers picked up their series at Metro with a double header on Sunday. The Rangers would fall in game one 12-6 but came back in the second game to earn a 5-1 victory.

Metro State used a six run second inning to take a 6-3 lead early in the game. Eric Anderson took the loss for RU as he pitched five innings while allowing nine runs on nine hits while striking out five as his record dropped to 3-4. Tyler Hageman and Etienne Materre were solid at the plate. Together they combined for five of the Rangers runs. Both were 2-for-4 with Materre collected an RBI in the game. Jordan Bruns who made his first start since being injured recorded a double and two RBIs.

In game two the Rangers put together a big inning for themselves to help earn the win. With the Rangers clinging to a 1-0 lead RU scored four more runs in the fifth to secure their lead. Five of the first six Ranger batters got on base. Hageman, Materre, Sean Chase and James Walker all had base hits while Max Regalado hit a RBI double. Brennan Bonati improved his record to 3-1 on the season as he pitched 4.2 innings allowing just one hit while striking out two batters. The Rangers, now 13-15 overall and 6-8 in the RMAC, will be at home beginning on Friday, March 30th when they take on Colorado Christian game time is slated for 11:00 am.
