Edwards Continues on With Campaign Despite Wife's Cancer
Last Friday, Sen. John Edwards, D-N.C., announced that his wife's cancer had returned. The former Senator's wife, Elizabeth, was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2004 but had beaten the cancer.
Edwards said that the new diagnosis of cancer is not curable, but it is treatable. The media speculated about whether or not this latest announcement would take Edwards out of the presidential race, but, as he said, "the campaign goes on strongly."
His wife was very visible in his 2004 bid for the White House and also when he was Sen. John Kerry's, D-Mass., running mate.
Mrs. Edwards told reporters that she would be out campaigning for her husband but acknowledged that with treatments her strength could be limited.
House Passes Appropriations Bill and Money for Peanuts
On Friday, the House, in a 218-212 vote, passed a $124 billion war supplemental that would aid the battles in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Only $103 billion would go to the two wars and the other $21 billion would go to "pet projects" of various Representatives. Democrats are being accused by Republicans for pork barrel spending.
The supplemental does provide funds to continue the war, but it has strings attached, the largest of which withdraws almost all U.S. troops by the end of August 2008 if certain benchmarks have not been met. President Bush has promised to veto the bill.
After Democrats were falling short of the necessary 218 votes to pass the measure, funds began being added to fund these pet projects.
In the bill, which is for the war, there is also added $60.4 million for salmon fisheries, $500 million for wildfire suppression, $74 million for peanut storehouses in Georgia and $25 million to aid spinach growers in California, just to name a few.
Timbaland to Host Fundraiser for Sen. Clinton
The rapper Timbaland will be hosting a fundraiser for Sen. Hillary Clinton on March 31 in Miami, Florida. Also in the "hizz-ouse" will be her husband, former President Bill Clinton.
You may remember Timbaland for his colorful lyrics in songs like "Give it to Me" and "Sex Beat."
To get into the event, donors will have to pay $1,000 a person.
Barack Obama may get a fundraiser in Hollywood from music mogul David Geffen of Geffen Records and film icon Steven Spielberg, but Clinton has Timbaland.
Take that and rewind it back, Obama.
