Junk food has deservedly received a lot of bad wrap in past.

These days, a lot of the traditionally 'bad' fast food joints now offer healthier alternatives to their greasy classics- most of the time by super-sizing their serving amount of lettuce.

Let's be honest here. Junk food is trash because it carries a ton of calories that contain little or no dietary value. Take a look at a nutritional guide for any fast food chain and you'll find that their foods contain a lot of fat and very little of anything else.

There's a misconception that 'healthier' offerings from a fast food giant contain more nutrients than their 'bad' cousins because they look more green and fresh.

Green is good, right? Wrong. Most of the time the green you see is just lots of lettuce, which is very filling, high in fiber, and low on calories. On the other hand, lettuce tastes like nothing and likewise contains no nutrients for your body. It's basically filler food.

Let this be clear to all: filler food is still trash.

Whether or not junk food is marketed as health-conscious, it is what it is. That can't be helped. People who want a healthy, nutritious meal should probably avoid fast food joints altogether, but is that realistic?

Some would consider me to be a healthy person. I eat well, get plenty of sunshine, and exercise on a regular basis. I even drink spirulina on occasion, which is an algae that contains tons of nutrients for the body. Being health conscious is something I take pride in, but I still end up craving a lot of crappy food.

I don't always act on my cravings, that would be hell, but when I do I don't hold myself back. I figure if I'm already going to eat something bad I might as well go to town.

So I do.

I love fried chicken. It's greasy, it's tasty, and it gives me heartburn. Best of all, I'm not lying to myself when I eat it. I'm not trying to cover up my junk food craze with a superficial layer of green. It's not like the health-police are hovering over my shoulder watching me through the bushes as I engorge myself in grease heaven.

I am a healthy person. Fried chicken is my favorite junk food.

Healthy eating habits are important, don't get me wrong. I'm just saying that deliciously crunchy foods are unhealthy and sometimes too much to resist. So why hide that?

Here I am, admitting that I honor the occasional junk food craving. I'm not lying to myself by pretending that the junk food I'm eating is healthy and green. When I do eat it, I know that it's crap, accept that fact, and eat.

No fillers for me.
